Deck Construction
Cincinnati decks have to survive the hillside and winter
Half the lots in this city aren’t flat. Delhi, Price Hill, Mt. Adams, Anderson Township — the ground falls away behind the house, and a deck that would be a two-foot step-down somewhere else ends up ten feet in the air here. That changes everything about how it gets built: deeper footings, larger posts, engineered beam spans, guardrail loads that actually matter.
Then there’s the weather. The Ohio Valley runs through dozens of freeze-thaw cycles a year, and the clay soil under most of Hamilton County holds water and moves with them. A footing poured too shallow will lift. A post set directly in dirt will rot from the bottom up. Neither problem shows up the first summer — they show up in year four, when the deck starts to feel springy and the rail wobbles.

Kitchen remodeling
Cabinets, countertops, islands, backsplash, lighting, and flooring — full gut or targeted update.
Yes, in Ohio and Kentucky. We’ll send documentation before any work starts — ask and it’s in your inbox the same day.
Do I need a permit to build a deck?
Most attached decks and anything raised above ground level require one, and requirements differ between Cincinnati, the townships, and Northern Kentucky. We pull whatever the job needs and schedule the inspections. You don’t deal with the building department.
How long does it take to build a deck?
Most decks run one to three weeks of build time once we start. Permit review adds time before that, and it varies by jurisdiction. Your estimate includes the realistic full timeline, not just the days our crew is on site.
Wood or composite — which should I choose?
Wood costs less up front and needs cleaning and resealing every year or two. Composite costs more and needs almost nothing. If you plan to be in the house more than about eight years, composite usually wins on total cost. We’ll price both on the same estimate so you can see the actual difference.
Can you build on a steep or sloped lot?
Yes — a good share of our work is hillside and walkout-basement lots. Elevated decks need deeper footings, larger posts, and engineered beam spans, and the guardrail requirements are stricter. It’s a different build, and we price it as one.
When's the best time of year to build?
We build year-round. Spring books out fastest, so if you want a deck by Memorial Day, call in late winter. Fall and winter builds often start sooner and the material lead times are shorter.
